Rehabilitation of Offenders Act

The school will treat applicants who have a criminal record fairly and will not discriminate because of a conviction or other information revealed. Possession of a criminal record will not automatically prevent applicants from working with the school.  As part of the recruitment process any information revealed regarding a criminal record will only be considered in light of its relevance to the post for which the candidate is applying.

HLTA / Teaching Assistant

Fixed Term to start as soon as possible until July 2026 Maternity cover

1 day (6 hours) HLTA and 2 days (12 hours) TA with possibility of additional days prior to February Half Term

HLTA 6 hours 8.30 – 3.30pm

HLTA rate of pay FTE £30,518 - £33,699 (£15.82 - £17.47 per hour) 

Actual salary £3,612 – £3,984 per annum 

Teaching Assistant 12 hours 8.30 – 3.15

38 weeks (Term time only)

Teaching Assistant rate of pay FTE £24,796 - £26,403 (£12.85 - £13.69 per hour) dependent on experience

Actual Salary £6,648 - £7,080 per annum

To apply for the HLTA element of this role you must have a HLTA qualification.  If you do not hold a relevant qualification then the hours could be combined for the right candidate eg 18 hours Teaching Assistant.

Southmead Primary School is a friendly popular school with a caring family ethos.  We have 375 children on roll.  The Headteacher and Governors are looking to appoint a Teaching Assistant to work in the classroom providing support to the pupils including those with SEND.  The role will also include some small group interventions and classroom cover.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience of working in a school or similar role.
  • Experience of supporting children in the classroom, within small groups and/or delivering learning interventions.
  • Experience of working with a range of pupils, including those with SEND.
  • A caring and nurturing nature.
  • Enthusiasm and motivation.
  • Experience of working in partnership with teachers, parents and other professionals.
  • A flexible approach to meet the needs of the school.

Teaching Assistant - cover

£24,027 - £24,404 FTE (£12.45 - £12.65 per hour)

We are looking for people on an ad hoc basis to cover for staff absences. You would get paid for the hours you work and wouldn’t be committed to everyday – just as and when you are needed and are available. You will need to have a current DBS check which we can arrange if you are interested.

Ideally we are looking for someone with the following qualities:

  • A Teaching and Learning Assistant Level 2 qualification or equivalent
  • Experience of working with children and/or children with additional needs
  • Experience of delivering 1:1 and/or small group interventions
  • Experience of setting clear and consistent boundaries
  • A positive and encouraging attitude
  • Kindness and patience
  • A willingness to learn
  • An ability to work within a team
  • GCSE Grade C or above, or equivalent, in English and Maths

This role requires the ability to fulfill all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.

Meal Time Assistant – Cover

We are looking for people who have an hour or so to spare between either 11.50am – 1.05pm or 12.15pm – 1.30pm on an ad hoc basis to cover lunchtimes on the KS1 and KS2 playgrounds. You would get paid for the hours you work and wouldn’t be committed to everyday – as and when you are needed and are available. You will need to have a current DBS check which we can arrange if you are interested.

 School Crossing Patrol

School Crossing Patrols help children and adults cross the road safely while they are walking to and from school at a designated point/s and between specified times.
